An NPI (National Provider Identifier) is a unique 10-digit number the federal government assigns to every U.S. healthcare provider through NPPES, the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System. It never changes and it's how Medicare, insurers, and clearinghouses identify a physician across the entire system.
How do I look up a doctor's NPI?
Enter the physician's name in the box above and DocVol searches the tracked provider database. If you already have the 10-digit NPI, type it in and you'll go straight to that surgeon's profile. The official registry is also searchable free at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov.
Is DocVol's NPI data current?
The contact details — practice address, phone, and active/inactive status — are pulled live from the NPPES registry, which CMS updates weekly, and every profile is stamped with the date it was checked. Procedure volumes come from CMS Medicare claims (annual refresh) and are labeled with their data year.
